That’s interesting. I didn’t know that. The left has changed over the past 20/30 years. Whereas the idea of an Imperial power slaughtering an oppressed minority would have been despised by the western left of the past, the idea of an Islamic empire killing millions of Christians isn’t so problematic. The fact that the name was chosen by this organisation only confirms that. It’s pretty brazen really, but shows us where we are at.

Re: New Gillette advert
The company obviously approves the ad
And does so with one purpose ... to sell more razors
They would have been persuaded that jumping on some MeToo bandwagon & putting the boot into GAMMON would achieve that
I’m guessing the word ZEITGEIST appeared in the presentation

Indeed. It's always amused me that 'Young Turks' is used, if not quite as a compliment, but as, at the very least, a vaguely positive label.

Look into old comments by the head of The Young Turks, on the genocide. Not sure it is either stupidity or ignorance.

Another reason it is amazing that Capitol Man would proclaim ignorance of them.

Re: New Gillette advert
The original Young Turks had a shameful role in the Armenian genocide.

Only stupidity and/or ignorance can lead to any "lefty" being happy with this label.

"left relies more on actual news sources that have a history and a reputation and apply journalistic standards"

Peruse the cut and pastes/links on the Trump thread sometime.

It's worse than that really, mate, although you are bang on as far as you go.

But these snowflakes, affecting distaste for capitalism and concern for the environment whilst sitting in airport lounges awaiting flights for their incessant weekends abroad and clutching their Apple iPhones, watching Hollywood produced media on their little screens and drinking their Espresso Martinis are actually more in thrall to global capitalism and worse polluters than any generation ever before.

The company may not; the director of the ad, I would say most certainly does.

It is her vision you are seeing, whether you consciously dismiss the selling message or not.

Yes, but how is it possible for you to know little or nothing about the Young Turks and at the same time know pretty much everything about them?

And why won't you answer this simple question?

Companies pretending to be virtuous so they can sell products to people that hate capitalism

They don’t really give a shit, lets be honest.

Is this really the hill any shred of your pretended political acumen is going to die on?

"the left relies more on actual news sources that have a history and a reputation and apply journalistic standards."

Like the news source that said the The Young Turks were "the most-watched online news show in the world"

Or the one that printed that 2 1/2 years ago that the Young Turks had:

- "crossed 4 billion lifetime views"

- "3 million subscribers" on their main channel on Youtube [myself checking, it is now its - 4,226,518]

-"8 million subscribers across the Web, including Facebook."

- In a month back then they had "86 million unique viewers."

The news outlets that report those things?

(Important to remember here your assessment of The Young Turks - "tiny, obscure")

"more of a fixation of right wing tosses than anyone of genuine influence."

- Ana Kasparian of The Young Turks (the woman in the Gillette ad) was on NPR's Week In Politics last year with David Brooks of The New York Times.

https://www.npr.org/2018/06/01/616257705/week-in-politics-u-s-allies-react-swiftly-to-new-u-s-tariffs-on-steel-and-alumin

- The Young Turks had Dan Rather on for a half year stint last year.
The main stream new outlets begrudgingly (remember the YTs stuff is in direct competition with them for views) covered that.
(Also tiptoe carefully in what you say about Rather or you might be making one of my original points about the media.)

- A Business Insider article about VC and expansion in 2017

"just google Gillette and young Turks"

I didn't need to, I am familiar with news and pseudo news across the spectrum, so I picked up on their presence in the ad, the first time I watched it. Just like when I instantly picked up your error about the Soviet premier, I know these things for other reasons than internet debate.

That broad familiarity is the minimum requirement to make judgments about media bias. Something you lack owning to your own admitted ignorance.

Again what is your opinion on media worth if you continue to assert your ignorance of that media?

Re: New Gillette advert
Suffice to say you’re just full of shit hermit.

And to the little man - because it’s not difficult to see that the left relies more on actual news sources that have a history and a reputation and apply journalistic standards.

The young Turks are, aside from being the stuff of Certain posters’ dreams are more of a fixation of right wing tosses than anyone of genuine influence.

Again, just google Gillette and young Turks and read the shrieking hysteria from lowlifes like yourselves.

Capital is a sort of Pickle-lite which is both a complement and an insult. Not quite Pickle enough to be Pickle and yet Pickle enough to be considered a bit Pickle.

Using words like "reality-challenged", "fantasy" really do highlight that in the few instances when you have tried to work in reality and fact, you have been empirically wrong - "tiny" - "obscure"

Do your fact free posts like this one, (essentially - I know you are but what am I. ) give you some level of comfort?

But still the matter at hand - Are you telling us that you are ignorant of The Young Turks, making your media and American politics posts on this board all suspect?

I'm a bit confused. Can you explain how you know next to nothing about the Young Turks yet simultaneously know all about them?

Of course they fucking don't. You are a reality-challenged individual living in a world you made up.

Capitol Man 10:33 Thu Jan 17

The facts again stand against you.

Failing back into posts without argument does not change the fact that you have said that you were ignorant of The Young Turks, thereby calling into question your opinions about media and American politics.

This does not go away, mate.

Re: New Gillette advert
Capitol Man 10:25 Thu Jan 17

I can repeat stuff as well.

Again how do you know they are "outsized," if you are so ignorant of them? You would have no reality from which to judge the fantasy.

You can try to retreat to this position but you already said they were "tiny" and "obscure" , which is empirically wrong.
